Seeding in the Rotonda Circle

Hydroseeding in Rotonda West follows the community's long build-out. The land was part of a cattle ranch owned by William and Alfred Vanderbilt, who sold a portion in 1969. Development began in 1970 with a circular plan of eight segments around a central hub, modeled on the layout of World War II training airfields. Many lots platted then are only now getting houses, and each new home needs a lawn.

Golf course edges

All but one of the residential segments include a golf course. Yards that back onto a course need to blend in at the property line and handle runoff from the fairway side. We grade the back of the lot so water moves along the edge, not toward the house, and use a seed blend that holds up next to managed turf.

Wetlands left alone

One segment, planned as Saint Andrews, was never built because of wetlands conservation. The developer's other planned project on the east coast was abandoned when the Army Corps of Engineers refused a permit to drain swamp land. Lots near preserved wetlands or the undeveloped hub need silt fence along the downhill edge while building is underway, so sediment stays out of protected areas.

Storm repairs

Rotonda West was among the many places hit by Hurricane Ian in September 2022. Repairs and new roofs brought equipment into a lot of yards, and many lawns still have bare tracks or thin spots. Hydroseeding is a quick, low-cost way to repair those.

Rotonda West Questions

My lot backs onto a golf course. Can you match the grass?

We can get close with seed. Exact matching to a course's sod variety is not always possible, so we will talk through the options.

Do I need silt fence if my lot is next to a preserve?

Usually, yes. Disturbed soil next to wetlands or preserves should have sediment control until the lawn covers.

Can you fix ruts left by roofing and repair trucks?

Yes. We level the ruts, loosen the soil and hydroseed the bare areas.

How long does a new lawn take to fill in here?

In warm months, most hydroseed lawns cover in about four to eight weeks with proper watering.
