Seeding on Gulf Coast Sand, One Season at a Time

Hydroseeding Sarasota sprays seed, wood fiber mulch and tackifier onto bare ground across Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties. We seed new home lawns, builder lots and commercial sites, stabilize pond banks and swales, put up silt fence and inlet protection, grade and topsoil yards, and bring thin lawns back.

The work here is shaped by three things. The first is sand: most Florida soils are sand-based with little organic matter, and the flatwoods sands around the region hold a high water table for part of the year and almost no water once it drops. The second is the calendar. About 60 percent of Sarasota's 49 inches of yearly rain falls from June through September, and those are the same four months when Sarasota County bans fertilizer containing nitrogen or phosphorus. The third is water everywhere: more than a third of the city's area is water, and county code requires a siltation barrier on new construction within 20 feet of a wetland, canal, ditch or swale.

So we plan every job around those facts rather than a generic seeding recipe.

How we work

We walk the site first. We check the sand, the slope toward the house, low spots, irrigation coverage and where the water goes when it storms.
We tell you which grass can be seeded. Bahiagrass seeds well here. St. Augustinegrass cannot be grown from seed at all, so if you want it, we say so and talk about sod or plugs instead.
We match the slurry to the month. From June 1 through September 30 our mix carries no nitrogen or phosphorus. The rest of the year we follow the soil test.
We put barriers in before the dirt moves. On jobs near water, silt fence and inlet protection go in first and stay until final inspection.
We give you a written quote that lists seed, mulch, prep, barriers and any topsoil as separate lines.
We leave watering instructions in writing, adjusted for the dry spring or the wet summer.
