Seeding Ground in Palmetto
Hydroseeding in Palmetto covers a mix of old and new ground. The city sits on the north side of the tidal Manatee River, directly across from Bradenton, and has about 5.8 square miles of area, roughly 8 percent water. For much of its history its income came from packing and shipping fruits and vegetables, so a lot of the land around town was farmed before it was built on.
Former farm fields
Farm ground tends to have a plow layer that is loose on top and compacted a few inches down. Before a new lawn installation on a former field, we rip or till that hard layer and smooth the grade so water does not sit in old furrow lines. Then the hydroseed and mulch go down in one pass.
Mine land turned neighborhood
A dolomite mine operated on the Manatee River in Palmetto from the 1950s to 1974. One 1978 plan for the site centered on a lake created by the mining, and the 214-acre property was finally redeveloped in 1998 as Riviera Dunes, a waterfront community with a marina. Reclaimed sites like that often have mixed fill, so we dig a few test holes to see the fill before choosing between topsoil, compost or hydroseeding directly.
Riverfront and estuary edges
The lower Manatee is an estuary, and runoff from Palmetto yards and construction sites drains into it. On waterfront lots and anything near a storm inlet, we put silt fence or wattles in before grading, and keep hydromulch spray off the water and seawalls.

Palmetto Questions
My house was built on an old field. Why is the yard so hard to water?
Former farm ground often has a compacted layer below the surface that sheds water. Breaking that layer before seeding helps roots go deeper.
Can you seed around a lake in a neighborhood like Riviera Dunes?
Yes, on private banks. We use blankets or bonded fiber on the steeper parts and keep spray off the water.
Do you install silt fence for small builders in Palmetto?
Yes, including single-lot jobs. We can come back for final hydroseeding when the house is done.
Is hydroseeding cheaper than sod for a big lot?
Usually, yes, especially on large or oddly shaped yards. The written estimate gives you the exact price for your lot.
