Englewood Yards After 2024
Hydroseeding in Englewood picked up after the 2024 storm season. Heavy rain from Hurricane Helene flooded houses here, and less than two weeks later storm surge from Hurricane Milton destroyed some of the same homes. Rebuilt houses and cleared lots now need lawns again, and much of the ground was reshaped by water.
One town, two counties
Englewood started on the Sarasota side of the county line and grew until it sat in both Sarasota and Charlotte counties. For a homeowner that mostly matters at permit time: a rebuild on one side of the line goes through a different county office than one a few streets away. We work on both sides and plan silt fence and stabilization to match the permit you have.
Lots of water, not much elevation
Of Englewood's 13.1 square miles, about 25 percent is water. That much shoreline means yards drain quickly toward a bay, canal or ditch. On a lot being rebuilt, wattles or silt fence on the water side keep loose sand from washing out before grass covers it. On short banks, an erosion control blanket over the hydroseed holds better than mulch alone.
Old grove lots
The town was platted in 1896 with 1-acre home lots and 10-acre grove lots, likely meant for citrus. Freezes in 1894, 1895 and 1896 killed many local orange trees, and fishing took over as the main business. Some of those large original parcels have been split and built on since; others are still big, open yards. Large lots are where hydroseeding beats sod on price by the widest margin.

Englewood Questions
My house is on the Charlotte County side. Do you work there?
Yes. We work on both the Sarasota and Charlotte sides of Englewood.
The surge left a layer of sand over my yard. Can you seed on top of it?
Sometimes. If the sand is shallow we mix it into the soil below. If it is deep, we grade it out or cap it with topsoil before seeding.
Do I need sediment control while rebuilding near the water?
If bare ground slopes toward a canal, bay or storm drain, yes. It is also commonly required by the building permit.
Is hydroseeding a good choice for a large lot?
On big, open yards it is usually much cheaper than sod. The written estimate will show the price for your lot.
